What is Defense Mechanism
In the plant and animal kingdom, there is rule of the thumb that exists, which is eat or be eaten. The food chain can be simple and complex. The nature, provides all of its living creatures necessary defensive and/ or attacking skills to ensure that each of their kind have a strong chance of staving off extinction.
The defensive mechanisms of animals and plants can be varied and intricate. Some animals rely on running to escape being eaten by predatory animals. Some would use camouflage like moths and zebras to become invisible or unrecognizable in the radars of stalking animals.
Some would bring the battle into a chemical warfare, to cripple and smother the enemy’s advances. Skunks and millipedes are good at this ploy.
Some animals will also use symbiotic relationships to ward off predators. The endearing clown fish may provide sea anemone’s with some left over foods in exchange for protection. Some acacia trees depend on ants to protect it from their adversaries and the reward of the ants are food and shelter.
